Taking Competition Policy Into the Future

Giving a platform to the competition experts and scholars of tomorrow

Rationale and themes

On 3 February, 2022 DG Competition will host a half-day conference titled “Taking Competition Policy into the Future”. The conference will give a platform to the competition experts and scholars of tomorrow who will debate their views on what competition policy will look like ten years from now. It will also be an opportunity for today’s experts and practitioners to listen and respond to their vision, views and concerns.

In addition to digital and green issues, “Taking Competition Policy into the Future” will table a broader debate about how competition policy can evolve over the next decade to continue to help our economies become stronger and more resilient.

Young experts run the conference

“Taking Competition Policy into the Future” is open to the over 100 young people who entered in the Student Challenges that DG Competition organised in 2019 and 2021. The Young Experts conference offers them another opportunity to engage with DG Competition.

The eight winners of the two challenges have accepted our invitation to sit in the independent Scientific Committee. They are Rossi Abi-Rafeh, Oriane Limouzin, David Pérez de Lamo, Guillaume Thebaudin, Despoina Goupou, Agustina Hermida, Ana Popovici and Rosa Warning. The Scientific Committee is taking care of picking the conference’s format and topics, selecting the speakers and steering the conference on 3 February, 2022.

Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager will give introductory remarks. Director-General Olivier Guersent will close the event.
